Dr. Kendrell Ringer, an assistant professor and the program coordinator for the Recreational Therapy Program at Alabama State University, has reached an exciting milestone in her career. She was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification® (NCTRC®), an organization dedicated to maintaining professional excellence in recreational therapy since 1981.

"Serving on the NCTRC Board of Directors provides an opportunity to contribute to the future of Recreational Therapy while ensuring that students at Alabama State University remain connected to the highest standards of professional practice, certification, and leadership development. I am honored to represent both our university and the Recreational Therapy profession at the national level," Ringer said.

This esteemed board includes 10 individuals who guide the certification standards that protect consumers and advance the profession worldwide. Ringer’s three-year term, from April 2026 to April 2029, places her among seven Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist® (CTRS®) professionals and three appointed representatives from the sectors: consumers, employers and international sectors.

Ringer expressed deep honor and enthusiasm about her new role. She sees it as an opportunity to influence the future of recreational therapy.

“I remain committed to advancing the profession through advocacy while continuing to promote the growth and visibility of ASU’s Recreational Therapy Program,” she added.

The year 2026 also marks a meaningful anniversary within the Therapeutic Recreation profession as NCTRC celebrates 45 years of service as the largest credentialing organization within the field.
